Some Distant Memory Updates:

lyricalweekly.com/the-chronicles-of-nors-a-musical-odyssey-amidst-chaos/
I've got some juicy news to share with you today. We've been featured in not one, but THREE articles! Yes, you heard that right.
First off, Rosalia from Grammy’s Weekly penned a brilliant piece about our band's resilience and how we defied disbandment - "The Unyielding Resilience of Some Distant Memory: A Band That Defied Disbandment". She beautifully captured the essence of our journey and highlighted our upcoming projects including the music video for “Just A Story” which is going to be an absolute visual feast!
Then there was Serena Will from Songswire who took us on a melodic odyssey with her article - "A Melodic Odyssey: The Musical Voyage of Some Distant Memory". She shone light on our artistic skill as well as the obstacles we overcame during the recording of “Reflections.”
These articles are such an honor for us and they perfectly encapsulate what we stand for – creativity, resilience, inventiveness. I am beyond excited to share them with all of you!
So buckle up because this musical rollercoaster is far from over. With new albums like “Tide” in the works and more creative ventures up Jasper’s sleeve (and mine too!), there's so much more coming your way.

We're still hard at work creating what promises to be our best music video yet for ‘Just A Story’. Stay tuned as we continue sharing updates along the way! In the meantime, enjoy my included editorial on the making of a Some Distant Memory album:
Creating an album for Some Distant Memory (SDM) is akin to embarking on an epic quest - filled with inspiration, creativity, and a touch of madness. The journey often begins not in the recording studio, but at our art desk. Heavily inspired by avant-garde classics like OMD’s 'Dazzle Ships' and Pink Floyd’s 'The Wall', we believe that every melody deserves its visual counterpart – hence why our artwork takes precedence.
Once the doodles have evolved into masterpieces or photography has been edited beyond recognition, we christen it with a title - just one word that encapsulates its essence perfectly; much like how Pet Shop Boys would do it.
Next comes lyric writing - arguably one of the most cathartic parts of this process. We dive headfirst into old journals and cut-ups from intriguing articles or books (a la David Bowie), molding them until they resonate with both the album title and convey an abstract yet potent message supported by thematic music. And while New Order might not emphasize song titles aligning perfectly with lyrics, we certainly don't shy away from such creative liberties!
Our albums are always composed of nine songs – no more, no less – honoring Norse mythology's significance attached to this number. Once penned down, these songs come alive through found sounds captured during our everyday adventures which are plugged into sampling synthesizers creating rhythmic foundations for each track.
Inspired by Depeche Mode's groundbreaking album 'Construction Time Again', these industrial samples become sonic blueprints guiding us during jam sessions as well as serving as metronomes for melodies during recording sessions.
Manual instruments weave around sequencers & drum machines adding their unique flavors in multiple takes till perfection is achieved creating tightly-knit soundscapes that breathe life into lyrics sung over multiple attempts till everything feels right!
We've traditionally uploaded five song batches onto YouTube before distributing them elsewhere upon completion ensuring audiences experience varied facets of our musical spectrum within multi-track videos along with full-album tracks offering comprehensive listening experiences! We will probably upload this way again when things pick up after Reflections.
But wait! There's more! Post-production often extends weeks or months beyond initial release involving creation of music videos & related content extending artistic expression beyond audio realms echoing golden age music video vibes transforming musicians temporarily into film directors thinking outside conventional boxes making magic happen onscreen too!
And so concludes another exciting chapter in SDM’s saga where every album becomes not just collection tunes but rather immersive multi-sensory experiences pushing boundaries blending genres redefining what it means be truly innovative band today’s world!
Before we move onto my picks of the day let me say something about current global affairs: It seems like every day brings new challenges but remember that adversity often breeds creativity & resilience – two qualities that define us as humans.
Now onto Nora’s Picks of The Day:
Song: "It’s A Mystery" by Toyah Wilcox
Album: "Pornography" by The Cure
Movie: "Blue Velvet" by David Lynch
Book: "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu
That's all for Baroness’ Bulletin #8! Stay tuned and remember to keep shining. Love and light to you all!
